The Master of Science in Human Resources Management program at The University of Scranton prepares current HR professionals to gain their SHRM certification. The program's curriculum follows the SHRM's HR Curriculum Handbook. Course topics include Control and Budgeting Systems, Recruitment and Staffing, and Ethics in Human Resources.

The program is a total of 33-credits and includes a three-credit capstone where students apply their learning to real-world case studies in human resources. At Cornell University, current human resource professionals bring the real challenges they face in their workplaces to the program's curriculum. As part of the application process, students put forth a case-problem for examination during the program. Both faculty and the student's peers assist in examining solutions to the issue. The program has three required one-week periods of on-campus instruction at Cornell. Students delve into topics such as Competitive Advantage and Profitability, Aligning HR strategy with Organizational Strategy, and Leading for Creativity and Innovation. The program can be completed in as little as 15 months.

Admission to the program assumes at least eight years of work experience, although past educational experience and personal achievements can supplement less work experience. Two letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose and an online video are required for admission. Only 50 highly qualified candidates are admitted to the program once per year. The nine members of the EMHRM program at Cornell are published scholars who have received awards and honors for their expertise in the field.

Villanova University's 36-credit Master of Science in Human Resource Development provides study topics on Financial and Human Capital, Training and Development, and Employment Law. All students complete a capstone experience in one of three ways: passing the SHRM certification exam, passing the MSHRD's written exam, or completing a project in tandem with an internship. Graduate certification in several business-related fields can be gained in tandem with the MSHRD program. The MSHRD online program at VU was founded over 35 years ago.

VU admits students to the MSHRD program multiple times per year. New students can expect to start the program within two months after acceptance into the program. The application process requires that students have a Bachelor's degree, three letters of recommendation, resume, a statement of goals, a research methods class (with a writing sample provided), and an essay explaining the applicant's long-term career goals in human resources. VU offers prospective students a virtual MSHRD information session. Attendance of these info sessions may waive the $85 application fee.
