Boston University

School of Management

Though many people associate Boston College with Boston, the city is also home to Boston University. This is a private college with a total population of nearly 34,000 students, which makes it one of the city’s largest colleges. Founded as a religious institution and bible college by the United Methodist Church in 1938, BU later separated from that religious organization. Both ARWU and U.S. News & World Report ranked Boston University within the top 50 American colleges, and both Forbes and Washington Monthly included the university on their own lists. ARWU and other organizations ranked the university on a global level too.

Health Sector MBA

The School of Business, which is home to the School of Management, is one of the oldest departments on the Boston University campus. Though this school offers several MBA programs, including an executive MBA for working professionals, it also offers a Health Sector MBA for those who want to work in the medical or healthcare fields. The program comes in several options, including one that features only evening and nighttime classes and one that lets students earn a dual degree. The BU traditional Health Sector MBA, which is one of the top accredited healthcare degree programs in Boston, uses a cohort system. Between 50 and 55 students enroll in this program every year, and the university places those students in the same classes. This gives you the chance to form lasting relationships with some of your peers. The two year program encourages students to do a summer internship too.

Simmons College

School of Management

John Simmons was a rich man living in Boston who realized that women in the city did not have the same rights to higher education as men did. He opened a small college for women that now bares his name. Simmons College is one of the only colleges open only to female students in the nation today. Around 2,000 women take undergraduate classes on campus, and its graduate school, which is open to both women and men, has an enrollment of around 1,000 students. Despite being female only, Simmons College changed its admissions policy in 2014 to admit transgender students too.

Health Care MBA

The Health Care MBA program available through Simmons College is one of the top accredited healthcare degree programs in Boston. The program admits students who have a passion for healthcare, a minimum of one year working in a healthcare setting and some leadership experience. This healthcare program consists of 54 credits of work, which include 48 credits of required healthcare classes and an additional six hours of electives. You will take some of the same classes that regular MBA students take like financial reporting, problem solving and negotiating, managerial accounting and business leadership. Simmons also requires that you take courses on healthcare as a business and general healthcare that include health economics, healthcare management, healthcare ethics, information technology in the healthcare industry and marketing of medical facilities. Students typically take two courses each semester and finish the program in eight semesters. You can take classes during the summer session to finish the program a few months earlier than your peers.
