The University of Michigan – Flint is a regional branch of U of M that goes by the name of U of M Flint. Established in the late 1940s to meet the demands of military students heading to college on the GI Bill, it didn’t actually open for several years until the university could find a location for the campus and raise the funds needed to build that campus. It served as a two-year college called Flint College for several years and didn’t become a branch of the University of Michigan system until the 1970s.
