Winston-Salem State University

School of Business and Economics

Named after the city that surrounds its campus, Winston-Salem State University is a public university that many call WSSU. The university is a historically all-black university that accepts minority students and provides them with solid educational opportunities. Founded in 1892 as a private teaching college, it welcomed students of all backgrounds and provided those students with opportunities not available from other schools. The university later became public and changed its admissions policy to welcome more students. U.S. News & World Report ranks WSSU among the best comprehensive colleges in the south. More than 6,000 students enroll in the university each year.

Master of Healthcare Administration

Accredited healthcare administration degree programs in Winston-Salem and other cities in North Carolina feature courses that help students learn more about the administration work they will do in healthcare facilities. The MHA program that WSSU offers is available through its Department of Healthcare Management. It features 13 courses that are worth a total of 40 credits. Students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0, and they cannot earn a grade of “C” or lower in more than two classes. WSSU requires that students start classes in the fall and that they take four semesters of classes with a cohort of other students. This MHA program features classes such as Advanced Healthcare Management Applications and Healthcare Professional Relations. This is one of the only MHA programs with a course on Grant Management and Writing too. This class teaches students how to write grants and apply for the funding that healthcare facilities need. Students also take courses on Population Health Planning and Environmental Health Management.
