Master of Science in Healthcare Administration
Students who want to study healthcare administration at California State University Long Beach can enroll in one of the two programs that the school offers. While both programs award graduates a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, one program allows students to complete their degrees faster. This accelerated program helps students finish their work in just two years. They'll take classes in the fall and winter, but they'll also take classes during the spring and summer sessions. The traditional program allows students to take their time and spread their classes out over more semesters.
Though the university will accept prospective graduate students, those students must complete some prerequisites before becoming graduate candidates. This gives them the right to work on and earn degrees from the university. They must take all prerequisite courses and take at least six credits of courses relating to this major. Cal State Long Beach also asks students to take a graduate writing assessment and then get approval from the program director before beginning the full program.
To earn a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, students must take 45 credits of courses at the graduate level. This includes both required classes and some electives. They must take classes such as Managing Population Health, Advanced Healthcare Information Systems Management and Advanced Legal and Ethical Aspects of Health Administration. Cal State Long Beach has regional accreditation from the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WACS). WACS accreditation is also important for students who may want to bring credits with them that they earned from another university with accreditation. The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) also granted Cal State Long Beach accreditation for its healthcare administration program.
California State University- Long Beach Application Requirements
Cal State Long Beach has a few requirements and prerequisites in place for students who want to study healthcare administration. Students must take one accounting class, one statistics class, and at least two economics courses. Those who did not take those courses before enrolling can take the classes at the university.
The application for this program goes live on October 1. Students have until April 1 to submit their applications, but the university recommends that students submit their applications as soon as possible. They can submit their applications online and pay the $55 fee online too. Students must use the Cal State Apply website, which is the site used by all schools in the California State University system. In addition to filling out information on the application, students will submit other documents to the university itself.
All graduate students must have a bachelor's degree completed at the time that they start classes. They will supply the university with official transcripts to show that they have their degrees. Cal State Long Beach looks for students who maintained a grade point average of at least 3.0 over the course of the last 60 credits of classes taken. It may accept students who have a lower GPA but more professional experience. The university also requires that students either have five years of healthcare experience.
