Also known as Penn State Online, Penn State University World Campus is The Pennsylvania State University's online campus. The World Campus was established in 1998 and developed out of Penn State's distinguished, long history of distance learning that first started in 1892. The school's mission is to extend Penn State's certificate programs, graduate degrees, and undergraduate degrees to students who are unable to attend a Penn State campus due to life factors or geography. In order to earn a degree from World Campus, students must be accepted into the appropriate College for their chosen major. Courses are taught by the same on-campus faculty, and the required coursework is identical. Prospective students seeking admission into the Graduate School must have either earned a bachelor's degree or a post-secondary degree that is comparable to a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. university or college. The online Master of Healthcare Administration is designed for mid-level career professionals who wish to advance within their own organization or change positions in the field of healthcare. As such, most students typically have an extensive background in healthcare as well as eight to 10 years of professional work experience. World Campus expects applicants to have a minimum of five years of full-time professional work experience in the industry prior to seeking admittance.
Students must also send official transcripts from all previously attended institutions, two references, grade point average (GPA) and test scores, a current resume, and two essays. After reviewing application materials, the admissions committee will then choose applicants to participate in a brief interview, in-person or via Skype, to assess each student's potential for success in the profession and in the online program.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Students earning the online Master of Healthcare Administration from World Campus will pay $930 per credit, or $45,570 for the 49-credit degree if they are taking fewer than 12 credits per semester. Students taking 12 or more credits per semester will be charged a flat-rate tuition of $11,160. World Campus also charges an information technology fee that is assessed every semester. This fee is $86 for fewer than five credits, $189 for five to fewer than nine credits, and $252 for nine or more credits. Students should also keep in mind added fees for books, school supplies, and other expenses that may not be included in the school's tuition.
However, half- and full-time degree-seeking students may be eligible for federal student aid.
